Mastermind JAPAN launched its first in-house line of eyewear for Spring / Summer 2019.
Mastermind Japan is created by designer Masaaki Honma in 1997, combines street and luxury tastes. Punk-inspired visuals coupled with exquisite textures in precious raw materials such as diamonds give the collection a unique aesthetic. Mastermind's famous skull and crossbones logo-emblazoned T-shirts while jeans based on reworked classic Levis cuts are some of the most desirable.Mastermind has adopted the classic aviator and wayfarer models; the all-black designs are limited to 100 pairs.
Every pair will be laser-printed with “1 of 500” on the lens, sitting next to a mercury-printed lens coating depicting JAPAN's mastermind skull motif. Each pair includes branded hardware with chunkier models featuring a metal skull on the sides.

Masaaki Homma, a Japanese designer, founded the brand Mastermind Japan in 1997. Before the foundation of his brand, he kept working in sales for seven years at ‘Yohji Yamamoto’, after which he became manager for a boutique that sold clothes from new designers. In the first four years of the start of Mastermind Japan, Masaaki struggled a lot. After this failure, he started designing clothing using big-ticket materials, such as leather, cashmere, and silk, when he thought it would be his ultimate collection. Upon viewing the collections, ‘Maxfield LA (Los Angeles)’ placed a massive order to him; his products were a hit. Since then, he has been producing high-end clothing and footwear for men, women, and kids that get noticed by the iconic skull and crossbones logo.
